We are connecting with even more amazing health professionals in our community.

Today, we introduce Amanda Archibald - The Mama Coach Vancouver and she answers 7 impactful questions so you can have a better understanding about the role of a post-partum support professional.

We love caring for new families and helping moms through chiropractic care.

The birthing experience can be complex, scary, fun, and encapsulate almost every human emotion for both mother and father.

Having more education and resources is not necessarily the answer... but having the connection with someone who experiences birth on an ongoing basis can be priceless... if nothing more than learning through stories and connection about your possibilities through the pregnancy, birthing and beyond.

Without further adieu... Amanda The Mama Coach!

Meet Amanda

Mama Coach, Vancouver, Powerhouse ChiropracticWe love having Amanda as a part of our Powerhouse community.

She is a treasure trove of information and we always learn something new from her.

Amanda has been a guest at our Mom's Meetups and we look forward to continually supporting the health of our new moms alongside her.

Amanda is the Owner of The Mama Coach in Vancouver.

As a Registered Nurse, Lactation Consultant and Sleep Consultant her goal is to provide research based support for new moms and families as they enter this new stage of life.

Amanda worked as a labour and delivery nurse prior to having her own daughter and after her postpartum experience she realized how much information is out there for new moms and how overwhelming this could be.

She decided that she wanted to support new moms by walking alongside them in the journey and to help families figure out what works best for them and their babies.

1. What is your area of expertise and how does your company/business impact the lives of others?

I have a background in Nursing in labour and delivery as well as postpartum care where I have worked for the last 8 years helping new moms deliver their babies and support them in the immediate postpartum with newborn care and feeding.

After having my daughter I knew I could provide more support in a private practice so I now provide Postpartum Care, Sleep Consulting and Lactation Consulting for new families in their homes.

I truly enjoy getting to know families on a personal level and helping them find the solutions specific to their unique needs without any judgement, just support!

2. What personal experience or challenge initiated your career in this area?

Because of my experience working in labour and delivery I thought I had a really good grounding for bringing a baby home but I was so surprised by all the things I didn’t know and even more surprised when I went to find the answers.

I was overwhelmed with information on line and mom groups and appalled at the mom shaming that occurred when I know everyone is just trying to do their best.

I just knew that if I could help one mama feel confident in herself as a new mom then my job would be done… and now after helping over 500 families I can’t imagine doing anything else.

3. What drives you to get out of bed each morning and do what you do?

My daughter.

Emily is my everything, I want her to see a passionate, hardworking mother providing for her and sharing her unique gifts to help other people as well.

I want her to know she can do anything and find success that makes her happy.

4. What bad recommendations do you hear in your profession or area of expertise?

I can’t say there are any bad recommendations as I truly believe that every family does what works best for them or for their families.

I think the most challenging thing that happens is people believe they have to mother the same way as their friend, aunt, own mother etc.

The truth is you can mother your child however works for you.

Having the information and being able to make an empowered choice is the most important thing.

5. What is your greatest failure and what did you learn from it?

My greatest failure was not asking for help when I needed it postpartum with my little one.

I felt like I had to do everything on my own to consider myself a “successful” mother.

I know now that the most successful people ask for help kindly and often.

It is not a sign of weakness but of strength!

6. What resources, outside of your own, do you most recommend?

I am frequently recommending alternative therapies in conjunction with my feeding or sleeping support.

This could look like Chiropractic care, Osteopathic care, Cranial Sacral Therapy or any combination of these things you find helps to solve the struggles you are having.

We are so lucky in BC to have amazing resources through Health Link like this one on how to help with a crying baby…

7. What is the single most important piece of advice you could give someone?

You aren’t expected to know all the answers even if this is your second or third or fourth child.

Each experience and each child is unique and its okay not to know what your “parenting style” is as this will evolve over time.

Parenting is really hard and you need to reach out to help and find what suites you best.

I have had Mamas breastfeed their first child and choose the second time around that this would not work for them and that is OKAY.

I have also had mamas who co-slept with the first baby and there second baby doesn’t sleep well while co-sleeping and they need change, this is also OKAY.

Be open to adjusting for what your child and family needs!
