Webster certified doctors learn...
  • Gentle correction techniques
  • Individual case management systems and
  • Evidence-informed practice to best care for pregnant women.
During the training...
  • the doctors receive an in-depth view of birth and
  • get the necessary skills and resources to support women who want safer, natural births.

To receive the Webster Certification the Doctors have undergone a written and a clinical exam.

This technique includes a specific chiropractic pelvic analysis and accompanying chiropractic correction.

The goal of the correction is to...
  • reduce the effects of pelvic misalignment and
  • restore normal function and balance in the pelvis

In the care of pregnant women, pelvic misalignment may lead to difficult labor, or dystocia, for the mother.

Dystocia or difficult labour, as defined by William’s Obstetrics, is from:
  • inadequate uterine function,
  • pelvic misalignment,
  • and baby malposition (breech, transverse)

Preliminary research of the Webster Technique is positive. This research indicates that chiropractic care may have a positive effect on birth outcomes. This is because the corrections address these three causes of dystocia.

The Doctors can now see a wide range or individuals throughout pregnancy. They serve with excellence using the latest eveidence-informed practice.

About the Webster Technique

Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital to normal physiological function, for both the mother and baby. This is true throughout pregnancy and the birthing process.
More women and birth providers are discovering the many benefits with chiropractic care. They recognize this area of expertise through the ICPA Webster Certification.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and correction. The goal of the correction is to reduce the effects of pelvic imbalance.
In pregnancy, pelvic imbalance may affect the mother's comfort and the baby's imbalance.
During birth, pelvic imbalance can affect labour progression, leading to unnecessary birth intervention.
Pelvic imbalance adversely affects...
  • uterine nerve function
  • the structure of the pelvis
  • and may hinder a baby's ability to gain optimal positioning
These are the very causes of dystocia or difficult, stalled labour.
The Webster Technique helps achieve a state of balance in the pelvis. This balance may contribute to a safer, easier birth outcome.

History of the Webster Technique

Dr. Larry Webster founded the ICPA. He developed the Webster Technique after his daughter's long and arduous birth of her first child.
He believed that chiropractic could have a bigger impact on birth. He wanted to develop a more specific approach to the pregnant pelvis.
He developed and then applied the Webster Technique in his practice. The purpose of this was to achieve pelvic balance in preparation for birth.
Dr Webster began to see more women coming into his office with a breech presentation. Applying his technique, it was his clinical observation these babies would turn themselves. The babies would oftentimes be in the desirable head-down position.
The ICPA initiated the Webster Certification Program. This provides doctors of chiropractic with advanced training. They gain the physiological understanding for this technique in pregnancy.
Additionally, Webster Certified doctors contribute to the ICPA's ongoing clinical research. The research links the technique's ability to support normal physiological function in pregnancy and birth.
The research reveals that this particular correction may contribute to safer, easier births. This is because the technique alleviates the very causes of dystocia.
The goal of birth providers and mothers is a safer, easier birth for both mother and baby.
More mothers are benefiting from the specific care of Webster Certified doctors. As a result, more birth care providers are seeking these doctors to care for their pregnant women.
The ICPA invites all pregnant women to add chiropractic to their prenatal care plans.
